Interpretation Guide: I wrote this many years ago. I don’t remember what the imagery and metaphor were meant to convey, but coming back and reading it with fresh eyes, I found it to be uplifting. I still enjoy the sound and atmosphere of a June downpour. It’s a momentary relief from the scorching heat, a vector of life from the clouds above. When you read this poem, what does it mean to you?
There’s rain falling outside my window,
washing away months of silence.
I cracked the window to hear it better,
and to let the sweet smell of it in.
Pitter-patter, drippity-drop, it calls,
in a voice soothing to sore ears.
Steadily, softly it marches down from the clouds,
and makes its stand upon my roof.
I think I’ll run outside for a bit, maybe take a walk,
and leave my umbrella at the door.
I’ll wander around in the yard on this dark night,
and just let the rain fall around me.
Pitter-patter, drippity-drop,
And the rain falls all around me.
